FINDERS-KEEPERS TREASURE-SEEKERS

Edition 2

July 2006

At our July meeting we had some Great Finds. Tim found a wonderful Mercury Dime in a very nice condition. Tommy, of course found some jewelry, we think he has a magnet in his head that takes him to the good stuff. Steve did some detecting in Wisconsin that netted him some historically significant finds included a ship’s medallion and a old German coin from many years ago. Congratulations to all.

Of course the summer months tend to be vacation time, so we only had about a dozen members at this meeting, we are hopeful that the numbers will be on the rise as vacation season starts to wind down.

The Texas Council has sent us some raffle tickets to sell as a fund raiser, they are 1 dollar each or 6 for 5 dollars. The prizes are a 25 ounce silver bar, a gold coin, and a silver round; fantastic prizes all.

We discussed the November 5-star hunt and many of our members thought that it would be a great time. We would like to get as many people to go as possible, if you don’t want to hunt that’s OK, lets make a good showing to put our club “on the map”.

Geo-caching, a fast growing hobby, is a lot of fun and many of our members are becoming actively involved. It is being discussed that our club make our own cache to hide so fellow cachers in the area can get to know about us and our hobby. This is something we need to talk about so give a thought before our next meeting.

FKTS is a club for metal detecting in the Houston area. We welcome all enthusiasts, or just people who are curious about our hobby. Our club is open to any and all who have an interest. We meet once a month to visit, brag about our finds, ask questions, get advice, share places to go and indulge our common interest.

We welcome any prospective members to join us at a meeting; we meet the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm at the Old Hickory Inn in Stafford.

A little about our membership;

FKTS has some members who are also interesting in geo-caching. Geo-caching is a fast growing hobby that is world-wide. All you need is a GPS and a sense of adventure. If you would like more information on this fast growing, fun, and family friendly hobby check out www.geocaching.com.

Remember our next meeting will be on July 11th , and we hope to see you there!

Metal detecting is a fun filled hobby that can be enjoyed by anybody who likes to be in the great outdoors. The hunt can be just as much fun as the find. As much fun as we have we must remember that responsibility accompanies the joy that we have. Please follow all local laws and always remember if you dig a hole you must fill it.
